Ask Mr. Robot Addon Documentation
Installation instructions can be found on the main addon page.
The AskMrRobot addon can be opened by clicking the minimap icon, using the addon compartment dropdown at the top-right corner of your screen in-game, or typing the slash command /amr show in a chat window.
You will see four tabs across the top: Export, Gear, Combat Logs, and Options. It defaults to the last tab you were looking at when the window is opened, or the Export tab if this is your first use after logging in or reloading.
Export
The Export tab is used to send your character information from the game to our website.
- Open the AskMrRobot addon; if the Export tab is not selected, click the Export tab
- Press Ctrl+C to copy the large block of generated text to your clipboard
- Go to the AskMrRobot website, usually the optimizer page
- Click the "Import from Addon" button at the top of the page to open the character picker, which will automatically focus the AMR Addon text area (note: if this is your first time using the site, the character picker will already be open, and you can just click anywhere inside the AMR Addon text area)
- Press Ctrl+V to paste the data from your clipboard into the website
The website will automatically read your character data as soon as you paste it into the box. The character picker will close automatically, and your character will be loaded.
You are now ready to optimize! If you are new to our website, you can read our getting started guide.
Gear
The Gear tab lets you quickly switch between your optimized gear setups.
Import Gear Setups
The first thing you will need to do is import your gear setups from the website to the addon.
- Complete a Best in Bags optimization on the website for as many specs and setups as you wish
- When looking at the optimization results on the website for any of your setups (it doesn't matter which one -- this will import all of them at once), press the Send to Addon button just below the table of gear
- Press Ctrl+C to copy the large block of text that is automatically selected in the popup that appears
- Go into the game and open the AskMrRobot addon; if the Gear tab is not selected, click the Gear tab
- Click the orange Import button at the top-left side of the Gear tab to open the import window
- Press Ctrl+V to paste the data, then click Import
You should now see all of your Best in Bags setups from the website in the in-game addon in the same order, with the same names. NOTE: if this is the first time you have used this feature, it may appear blank. There is a dropdown list at the top of the Gear window -- if that is blank, click it and choose one of your setups to view it.
Switching Gear Setups
Now that you have imported your Best in Bags gear setups, you can automatically switch between them using the addon. This section will walk you through how to do that and exactly what the addon is doing for you, as well as how to customize the behavior to your liking.
- Open the AskMrRobot addon and switch to the Gear tab
- Using the dropdown list at the top of the Gear tab, choose the setup that you would like to activate
- You will see a summary of the gear for this setup. Items that are already equipped will have an "E" next to them. Gems and enchants will also appear, and will be highlighted if they are different in-game from your optimized setup. We will talk a little more about gems and enchants below in the shopping list section.
- Click the green "Activate XXX Spec and Equip Gear" button. Do not move your character or press another button while it is swapping.
Upon pressing the button, the following will happen in order:
- If your setup is for a different spec, your spec will be changed (this is why you need to stand still for a moment, moving will cancel the spec change)
- If your talents are different than those saved with your setup, your talents will be updated
- The gear in your setup will be equipped
- A Blizzard equipment manager set will be created with the same name as your setup
Switching talents to match your setup is enabled by default, but can be disabled on the Options tab.
We create a Blizzard equipment manager set for one main reason: it will conveniently tag items in your inventory as associated to one of your setups. (The item tooltip will show which equipment sets contain that item.) Note that Blizzard's API for the equipment manager is really bad, and we cannot actually create the set until after you activate and equip the setup once. An annoying limitation, but there is currently no way around it. You can disable creating Blizzard equipment manager sets on the Options tab if you prefer.
Shopping List
To show the shopping list, click the blue Show Shopping List button at the top-right of the Gear tab.
Whenever you import your gear, we also import a shopping list of gems and enchants that you will need. When viewing one of your setups, gems will have a green highlight around them and enchants will appear in bold if they are different than what is currently on your gear. The shopping list shows a summary of all required changes.
At the top of the shopping list, you can switch between whichever setup you want, and even look at setups for your other characters (in case you have one character who is a crafter or has most of your gold).
There is an option (disabled by default) to automatically show the shopping list when you open the auction house. When the auction house is open, you can click on any item in the shopping list to quickly search for it.
Junk List
The junk list is the companion to the Worst in Bags feature of the website, which lets you create a customized list of gear that you want to vendor or disenchant.
Importing your junk list works exactly the same as importing your gear setups:
- Run Worst in Bags on the website
- When looking at the results, press the Send to Addon button just below the list of gear
After importing, the junk list will be shown automatically. You can close and open it at any time with the blue Show Junk List button at the top-right of the Gear tab.
There is an option (disabled by default) to automatically show the junk list when you visit a vendor. When a vendor is open, you can click on any item in the shopping list to quickly sell it.
If you are an enchanter, you can also click on any item in the junk list to disenchant it. NOTE: as of this writing, the disenchanting behavior is not working. We have not figured out a way to get it to work after a Blizzard API update in The War Within.
Combat Logs
This tab lets you automatically enable/disable combat logging when you enter/leave a raid instance.
This is just a convenience feature not related to any other behavior on our website.
